    That article seems to be about a lack of Chinese blogger response. As to the rest of the world, what barriers are there (physical and political) to Western reporters reaching the site of flooding? I remember a Reuters article from last year about accusations of cover ups on the typhoon death toll. That’s not exactly the best way to elicit attention/sympathy from the rest of the world.

    Yes, but I worry that our community (present company excluded) is falling into the get hits trap: blog what they want to hear. And what most people want is not stories that evoke sympathy or ask us to humanize the Chinese. The most popular stories are ones of negativity (the 88’s have a great human interest piece on health care in China, but I still don’t see anyone stepping up to the plate to do anything about it and it is in he end still functionally a critique of the system)…The west has done a pretty good job of making the Chinese the new group we love to hate…
